Peoples` Friendship Square

Peoples` Friendship Square, BishkekPeoples` Friendship Square is located on the Chui Prospect, between the White House and the Historical Museum. There are two versions about the origin of the monument. According to one of them it was opened by Kosygin in 1974 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the USSR. According to another version, the square was created in honor of 100 years of voluntary adherence of the Kyrgyz people to the Russian empire. It was constructed in 1974, in the (former Frunze) Bishkek city. It’s represented by two wing-shaped pylons of concrete, lined with white marble; pylons girded with high relief, made of copper by drift, and coinage. The base of the monument is of gray marble. Composition includes 13 figures in high relief, symbolizing the indestructible friendship of the Kyrgyz and Russian peoples, their joint participation in the revolution and the cultural and economic development. At the edge of the lawn surrounding the basement of the monument is a slab with inscription in Kyrgyz and Russian languages. Its height is 28 m, diameter of the belt is 15 m. Sculptors: S.
