Russian Drama Theatre

In 1935, the Government of the Kyrgyz Soviet Socialist Republic adopted the decision on the organization of independent Russian Drama Theater. Since then, the Russian State Academic Theater of Drama is the only Russian theater of the Republic. The basis of the troupe were formed by the graduates of GITIS (teachers - People`s Artist of the USSR N.N. Litovtseva and People`s Artist of the USSR V.A. Orlov.). B. G. Feldman headed the group, who became the chief director of the theater.

The history of the theater begins from 6th November, 1935 with the play The Capital by A. Yanovsky (about the builders of the Moscow subway). Right after that was put on the second primiere The Platon Kretchet under the direction of GITIS graduate Vasilyev, who then became People`s Artist of Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic and carried out performances in the Kyrgyz theaters. A special role in the repertory of the theater took performances on the works of Kyrgyz writers and dramatists like Chingiz Aitmatov, M. Baydzhieva, M. Toybaeva, K. Eshmambetova, T. Abdumomunova, R. Shukurbekova. In 1988, on tour in Moscow theater showed a premiere The Scaffold by Chingiz Aitmatov. In the last decade classic productions were represented by the performances The Talents and Admirers, The Late Love, The Mad Money, The Truth is Good, but Happiness is Better by Ostrovsky, The Player by Dostoevsky.
Development of provincial audience’s tastes, familiarization of the audience with the best works of world drama, assistance in establishing of the national Kyrgyz theater and drama were the goals that were set to the theater.
