A.Maldybaeva Kyrgyz National Opera and Ballet Theater for its history has traveled a long and glorious path and became a musical and cultural center of the Kyrgyz Republic. The beginning of the Kyrgyz professional theaterical art was layed in 1926, when in Frunze (now Bishkek) was founded the first music and drama studio. In 1930, on the basis of this studio, which were largely dominated by the representatives of amateur talent groups, was formed The Kyrgyz State Drama Theater. During these years, wonderful professional musicians, composers, conductors, artists, directors, teachers came to Kyrgyzstan, who provided invaluable assistance and influence on the further development of theatrical art in Kyrgystan.

In 1937, here was put on a performance of the first musical drama Altyn Kiz (Golden Girl) to music by V. Vlasov and B. Feret libretto by J. Bokonbaev. With the release of the performance Altyn Kiz in the period of 1926-1937 years The Drama Theater transformed into The Music and Drama Theatre.

During the years of its work, The Kyrgyz Opera and Ballet Theater has put on over 200 operas and ballets.

 Performances: Boris Godunov, Prince Igor, Eugene Onegin, Queen of Spades, Cherevichki(slippers), Oprichnik, Iolanta, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Mermaid, Aida, Rigoletto, Optimistic Tragedy, La Traviata, Carmen, Anguish, Cio - Cio - San, Don Carlos, Faust, Mephistopheles, La Bohème, Mothering Field, Cholpon, Tomiris, Macbeth, La Bayadere and many other productions at various stages of its development give the evidence of continuous creative search of the theater’s collective. Such masterpieces of the national classics, as the opera Manas, Toktogul and Kurmanbek were set in the native language. In the Kyrgyz Opera and Ballet Theater worked and today work a large group of talented performers.
